2 Companies Control Over 50% of Bitcoin's Hashrate
New macOS Malware Targets Sensitive Data & Crypto, Tether Helps DOJ Recover $5M Linked To Scams,
According to BTC.com data, Foundry USA and AntPool - mining pools - now collectively control around 56% of Bitcoin's total hashrate.
This has raised concerns about the risk of centralization. If one pool gained more than 50% hashrate control, it could in theory launch a 51% attack.
Although this isn't the case, transaction censorship has already appeared because of such influence of the major pools. Many pools have to adhere to sanctions.
Bitcoin's hashrate is ~651 EH/s, where Foundry contributes ~216 EH/s and AntPool - 154 EH/s.
Mining pools have become popular because their offering makes steadier income compared to solo mining, as they "pool" individual miners' power together.
