Evolve Bank's Data Leak
Fetch.Ai, SingularityNET, and Ocean Protocol Finally Merge Tokens Into ASI, $3B In Token Unlocks Expected In July
Ransomware group LockBit has leaked 33 TB of Evolve Bank & Trust users' personal data on June 26th.
Evolve is a digital bank that powers a great deal of the fintechs in their codependent environment, as per our last month's article on the Synapse collapse.
Evolve immediately confirmed the leak. Since Evolve covers many leading fintechs, customers of such giants as Wise and Affirm have had their data exposed.
The data included names, addresses, birth dates, contacts, SSN and EIN, and more.
Evolve provided USD account details to Wise's customers between 2020 and 2023.
A recent SEC filing shows that some of Affirm's customers were impacted. Evolve facilitated the issuance and coverage of Affirm Cards.
Evolve then stated that although customer info was breached, there's no evidence of LockBit accessing any funds.
Evolve added that the leak is due to them refusing to pay the ransom, and that LockBit actually mistook Evolve for the Federal Reserve Bank.
The statement also said that their entry was likely an employee clicking a malicious link.
Regarding crypto, Evolve held the personal data of 155,586 Bitfinex, Copper Banking, and Nomad customers, which has also been leaked.
