First Zero Knowledge Proof On Bitcoin?
Coinbase Named Custodian For 8 Out Of 9 Ethereum ETFs, Deadline Set for Terra Collapse Claims
Bitcoin's mainnet may have seen the first-ever verify of a zero knowledge proof, as claimed by the developers at BitcoinOS.
Zero knowledge proofs have been dismissed as impossible on Bitcoin for a long time.
ZKPs are cryptographic methods for proving off-chain computation as true without disclosing the data. They're mostly used in the Ethereum ecosystem.
This transaction at block 85626 is said to be the final one after a series of them used to verify the proof.
They said that ZKPs on Bitcoin unlock "unlimited" scaling without additional changes to its base layer. If true, this could render most L2s useless.
A core contributor to BitcoinOS was critical about Lightning Network, saying it's overhyped, and actually usable only in a very small number of niche things.
The BitcoinOS team is set to present this achievement at Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville.
The presentation is promised to show conditional payment creation with ZKPs, which would help build a Bitcoin bridge.
BitcoinOS does makes interoperable rollups on Bitcoin and wants to become a "trustless superlayer".
