Ashley Class, a popular Airbnb host, discovered that her guests amassed a $1,500 electric bill mining crypto, using around ten computers and an EV charging station.
Her guests had a three-week stay, throughout which they made over $100,000 from crypto mining using. They admitted what they'd done, and paid the bill themselves. Though the property was left in an "amazing state".
The host shared her experience on TikTok, saying she was forced to implement a no-crypto-mining and no-EV-charging rule to prevent similar happenings.
Miners are constantly looking for ways to minimize their energy expenses, with some attempting to avoid them altogether by renting Airbnb properties.
The host's TikTok commenters discussed, saying that some end up getting away with it.
